Infectious Disease Testing

ABDA Labs offers a comprehensive Infectious Disease Testing service designed to support physicians and empower patients with fast, accurate, and accessible diagnostic insights. The lab specializes in molecular testing for a wide range of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), respiratory pathogens, urinary tract infections (UTIs), and bacterial vaginosis (BV), utilizing advanced PCR-based methods to detect pathogens and antibiotic resistance markers.

ABDA Labs provides state-of-the-art molecular diagnostics to help clinicians identify infectious agents quickly and accurately. With a focus on underrepresented communities, the lab delivers affordable, high-quality testing with a typical 24–48 hour turnaround time. Their intuitive provider platform allows for seamless test ordering, real-time status updates, and easy access to detailed, easy-to-interpret reports.

STI Panel with Resistance Markers

The STI Panel with Resistance Markers & Pathogenic Flora is a comprehensive molecular test that screens for multiple sexually transmitted pathogens and antibiotic resistance genes. This panel enables targeted treatment by identifying both the causative organisms and their resistance profiles.

Organisms and Markers Detected:

  • Neisseria gonorrhoeae

  • Chlamydia trachomatis

  • Trichomonas vaginalis

  • Herpes simplex virus 1 & 2 (HSV-1/2)

  • Treponema pallidum (Syphilis)

  • Haemophilus ducreyi

  • Mycoplasma genitalium

  • Gardnerella vaginalis

  • Ureaplasma urealyticum/parvum

  • Atopobium vaginae

  • Mobiluncus species

  • Megasphaera types I & II

  • Lactobacillus species

  • Candida albicans and C. glabrata

  • Antibiotic Resistance Markers: Beta-lactamase (TEM), Tetracycline resistance (tetM)

This panel is ideal for patients with suspected STIs, recurrent infections, or those requiring precision treatment due to antibiotic resistance concerns.

Respiratory Pathogen Panel

The Respiratory Pathogen Panel detects a broad spectrum of viral and bacterial agents responsible for respiratory infections, including seasonal and emerging pathogens. This multiplex PCR test supports rapid diagnosis and appropriate clinical management.

Pathogens Detected:

  • Influenza A & B (including H1N1)

  • Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)

  • SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)

  • Human Metapneumovirus

  • Parainfluenza viruses (1–4)

  • Adenovirus

  • Human Rhinovirus/Enterovirus

  • Coronaviruses (229E, HKU1, NL63, OC43)

  • Bordetella pertussis & parapertussis (Whooping Cough)

  • Mycoplasma pneumoniae

  • Chlamydia pneumoniae

This panel is particularly useful during flu season, for immunocompromised patients, or in outbreak settings where differential diagnosis is critical.

UTI and Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) Panels

ABDA Labs offers specialized molecular panels for urinary and vaginal health, improving diagnostic accuracy over traditional culture methods.

  • UTI Panel: Detects common uropathogens such as E. coli, Klebsiella, Proteus, Enterococcus, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, and others, along with antibiotic resistance markers.

  • BV Panel: Identifies key vaginal flora imbalances by detecting Gardnerella, Atopobium, Mobiluncus, and other conditionally pathogenic bacteria, while also assessing protective Lactobacillus levels.

These tests support personalized treatment plans, reduce unnecessary antibiotic use, and improve patient outcomes in recurrent or complex cases.
